Campo do Gerês · National Park

Nature starts at the door

Campo do Gerês sits within Peneda-Gerês National Park — Portugal's only national park. Trails, waterfalls, river beaches and granite villages, minutes away on foot or by car.

Trails and nature

Gerês Trail

One of the park's most popular trails, with valley views and ancient oak trees. Starting point 5 minutes on foot.

Arado Waterfall

One of the most impressive waterfalls in Gerês, reached by a short trail. Ice-cold water even in summer.

Cabril River Beach

A river beach with crystal-clear water, 10 minutes by car. Perfect for families and warm days.

Gerês Viewpoint

Panoramic views over the Gerês valley and Serra Amarela. Unmissable at sunset.

Villages and culture

Campo do Gerês is a granite village in the heart of the park. Nearby are Vilarinho das Furnas — a submerged village that re-emerges during droughts —, the village of Fafião, and the town of Gerês with its thermal spa. The region has its own identity: espigueiros, wayside shrines, medieval bridges.
